During the pandemic the music industry was hit incredibly hard. Artists could no longer play live shows to cultivate new audiences.
Fanshawe, known as Canada's top music school, located in Canada's UNESCO Music City has hundreds of artists, engineers, producers as students and alumni. In 2021 , with a desire to support these individuals, an idea was born. The project was called the Quaran-tunes playlist. Student and alumni were invited to submit any music they had created during the first year of the Pandemic; the music was compiled into a Spotify playlist.
An integrated communications campaign was built around the playlist.
• A blog was created to support the playlists, with a link to each artists social media.
• The playlist was released via press release on March 17, the one year mark of the lockdown, which happened to also coincide with an infamous date for the college that media loved mention annually.
By the numbers (in the first week):
• 80 playlist followers
• 171 blog pageviews (142 uniquie)
• 3 minutes 53, average page time on the blog
• 30 swipes to blog, 81 swipes to playlist, 12 link in bio clicks (Instagram) - reshared on London Music Office site.
• 3739 reached, 13 link clicks (Facebook)
• 6,099 impressions, 32 link clicks, 9 retweet (Twitter)
• 3,737 impressions, 27 link clicks (LinkedIN)
• 3 Interviews - MIA Coordinator, two artists
• 4 print news outlets carried the story with 11 syndications
• 2 radio interviews
That summer the campaign was recognized as Higher Education Social Media's Multiplatform Campaign of the Year and later received an Award of Merit from IABC London.
The following year, as the pandemic continued Quaran-2unes was released with new artists.
